LIBERTY UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES FIRST OF ITS KIND BILINGUAL ONLINE DEGREE PROGRAM CHANCELLOR FALWELL AND REV. SAMUEL RODRIGUEZ TO HOLD MEDIA AVAILABILITY IMMEDIATELY BEFORE ENDORSEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT ON MARCH 25 LYNCHBURG, VA-On March 25 Liberty University will become the first Christian University to offer bilingual associate’s degrees in education and business (either online or campus based) and only the second of any U.S. university to offer an online bilingual education associate’s degree.  Liberty, already at the lead in online education with over 60,000 students nationwide, recognized the need in the Hispanic community to expand their programs in a bilingual format.   Liberty En Español (LUE) will offer six bilingual programs, but will feature the associate’s degrees in education and business.  LUE is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and will be endorsed on March 25 by the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC), the nation’s largest Hispanic Evangelical organization. “The goal of Liberty University is to provide the opportunity to obtain a world class, Christian-based education for everyone.  Many Latino students have been forced to put their dreams on hold, to alter their career paths and to forego educational opportunities because of language barriers.  Liberty En Español is an opportunity for bilingual students to realize that their dreams of a better life through obtaining an education are alive and well,” said Liberty’s Chancellor, Jerry Falwell, Jr. “Only 3 percent of the Hispanic population in the United States has obtained a degree in higher education.  LUE begins today to increase that number and bring access to a quality education for Latinos.  The business and education programs offer degrees that will prepare students for employment in two of the largest sectors of the U.S. economy.” said Orlando Lobaina, Dean of LUE. Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the NHCLC who will endorse LUE on March 25 said, “The NHCLC stands as intercessors and a firewall to reverse the horrific educational epidemic experienced by Latino families for several generations. Liberty University is a leader in providing higher education opportunities to the Hispanic community. They are reaching out and making a viable difference by offering the Hispanic community the chance for success. The NHCLC has also begun a successful partnership with the Liberty University Online Academy to start bilingual Christian Schools at Hispanic churches. We are excited to partner with them in these new ventures.” Liberty En Español will provide highly qualified bilingual academic advisors to prospective students that help them through the admissions process and will advise them to successful completion of the programs and graduation.  Because the program is accredited, all coursework taken and degrees earned are accepted by any other accredited institution.  Liberty has the lowest tuition rates of any top-rated online program in the country, and students in the program who qualify are eligible for financial aid. LIBERTY UNIVERSITY®, founded in 1971 by Jerry Falwell Sr., prepares Christian leaders to influence their world. With 64,000 undergraduate and graduate students, Liberty is America's 8th largest university.  www.liberty.edu ON-SITE ATTENDANCE/SET-UP: Working press can arrive as early as 8:30 a.m., but must be set by 9:30 a.m. in the tunnel at the rear of the Vine’s Center.  A broadcast quality sound feed will be available.
