The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference Announces the Appointment of Dr. Samuel Pagán as the President of the Evangelical Association of Hispanic Scholars
The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC), the nation's largest Christian Hispanic organization, has announced the appointment of Dr. Samuel Pagán as President of The Evangelical Association of Hispanic Scholars (EAHS).
The Evangelical Association of Hispanic Scholars believes this association is critical to the development of rigorous research through Latino lenses as a place where emerging and seasoned scholars are nurtured and challenged to make the eternal principles of God's word shine in academia.
Dr. Samuel Pagán, is a leading Evangelical scholar and Professor of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Dar al-Kalima College in Bethlehem, and serves on the NHCLC Board of Directors (www.NHCLC.org
). A Puerto Rican born Bible translator and theologian, Samuel Pagán is an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), commissioned by the General Board of Common Ministries in the USA, to serve in Israel and Palestine. A prolific writer, he has published over 35 books on theological, biblical and pastoral themes, and has edited five study editions of the Bible, two Bible encyclopedias and a Bible dictionary. He has been academic dean and president of graduate theological institutions in Puerto Rico and the USA, and has been the director of the Bible translation department of the United Bible Societies in the Americas.
“It is indeed a privilege to serve as leader of this important Hispanic and scholarly group. In this new position one of my aims will be to relate closely the academic work with the lives and needs of local churches and denominations,” said, Dr. Pagán. “For the last decades I have been serving in the USA and abroad affirming and encouraging my colleagues and friends to incorporate the challenges and aspirations of congregations, and also of lay and ordained ministers, in their teaching, research and writings. With this leadership opportunity I will try to translate the challenges and opportunities coming from the people of the pews in scholarly words and works, and also transforming the academic literature and programs in lay terms for the development and benefits of both groups. It is a blessing to serve in this position as part of the important ministry and wide programs of the NHCLC.”
Dr. Jesse Miranda, President of The Miranda Center and CEO of the NHCLC said, “I am proud to be among the many friends and admirers of Dr. Samuel Pagán. I know of very few scholars who have the command and use of the language of Cervantes and Saavedra as my friend, Samuel. For many years I have admired his works on Don Quixote and his theological acumen, gifts with which he weaves culture and theology into a valuable tapestry, which contains a prophetic vision for the Hispanic community around the globe. I welcome him with open arms as a member of the NHCLC team.”
President of the NHCLC, Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, said, "The scholar's association will benefit greatly from a man who bridges the academy with the church. Dr. Pagán stands as one of the most prominent Latino Theologians. We are blessed to have him."
Dr. Samuel Pagán has lectured and taught in universities, seminaries and academic centers in Latin America, Europe, the Far East, and the Middle East. Dr. Pagán has the following academic degrees: Bachelor in Science in Chemical Engineering, Master in Divinity, Master in Theology, Doctorate in Hebrew Literature and Doctorate in Sacred Theology. Dr. Pagán and his wife, Dr. Nohemi Pagán, live in Jerusalem where they serve as professors at Dar al-Kalima College.
Huberto Pimentel, National Hispanic Pastor of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), said, "Dr. Pagán is the scholar with the ability to reach the academic and the lay people at church in the same sentence addressing the seriousness of the text and the practical application with grace and lifting up spirit"
