Recently I recovered a picture I had not seen in decades. In the photo, I am standing next to a young man I worked with in college (I’m the one on the left). I am nineteen.

Ed and I (along with Terry and Harold) were selected by Asbury College to spend the summer conducting Youth Crusades for Christ. Ed and I were the speakers and Terry and Harold provided the music.

The college scheduled us for meetings stretching throughout the summer and covering Pittsburgh to Texas. We bonded on long drives and experienced God’s power in numerous locations. Our largest crusade was at the civic center in Monroe, Louisiana where thousands attended and hundreds responded.

We finished the summer with a county wide meeting in Whitley City, Kentucky. After a short break we returned to school.

This opportunity completely set the direction of my life. I have since spoken live to several million people in 23 countries, but it all started during our summer of youth crusades. Looking back, I can see the critical importance of obeying God early. We cooperated with God’s plan and saw miracles.

What is He calling you to do? Whatever it is, obey God early then get ready for the ride of your life.

The Bible says in Joshua 24:24, “And the people said to Joshua, “we will serve the Lord our God and obey Him.” NIV
