When Asa Candler bought the formula for Coca-Cola from Atlanta pharmacist Dr. John Pemberton, the business was so small that he carried all the assets away in one horse drawn wagon.
Candler had bought the formula because of the drink’s local popularity. The original recipe was:
1 quart alcohol
80 ounces of orange oil
40 ounces of cinnamon oil
120 ounces of lemon oil
20 ounces of coriander oil
40 ounces of nutmeg oil
40 ounces of neroli oil
Mix and let stand for 2 hours, then serve chilled.
Candler knew his “secret” recipe was not enough for success so he decided to heavily promote his product.
Candler started by creating a logo with the name in flowing letters. He then trademarked the name and sold glasses and trays to local snack bars with the bold logo on everything.
Next, Candler arranged to sell Coke at sporting events. He then placed huge signs where Coke was available that read, “Ice Cold Coke Sold Here.” He even placed the signs in locations where no one knew what Coke was, creating intense curiosity.
Asa Candler recognized that an idea alone is not enough. You have to PUSH that idea out in front of everyone possible.
Whatever ideas God gives you, don’t just wait for them to work, push them into success.
The Bible says in Proverbs 13:4, “Lazy people want much but get little, while those who work hard will prosper.” NLT
