Release Your Gifts

Aristotle was born in New York City to parents who had moved to the United States from Greece. His mother was an artist, and his father owned a restaurant.

Aristotle spoke only Greek until he entered elementary school where he learned English. He and his brother, Gus, shined shoes and delivered newspapers to help the family financially.

After serving in the United States Army in World War Two, he was accepted at Columbia University as a premed student. While at Columbia he changed his interest to the diplomatic service and applied and was accepted for a position with the U.S. State Department.

When his interest again shifted, he transferred to an executive position with ABC News where he won several awards.

While at ABC, a talent agent met with Aristotle and said he urgently needed someone with a Greek accent for a small role in a movie. While working on the film, Aristotle realized that his desire had always been acting but he had never released that side of him.

The next year the actor, Burt Lancaster, was watching the movie with Aristotle’s small part and was so impressed he offered him a major role in his new film, “The Birdman of Alcatraz.”

The response to Aristotle in the movie was sensational. He was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor and won.

This launched one of the most successful film careers of the last century. Aristotle, now known as “Telly” even landed the lead in one the most popular shows in television history, “Kojak”.

Everything changed for Telly Savalas when he finally released his true gifts.

What gifts has God given you that have never been released? Isn’t it time to become who God has called you to be?

The Bible says in Romans 11:29, “For God’s gifts and His call can never be withdrawn.” NLT
