NHCLC Life Insurance

It’s affordable, convenient—and may help protect your family.

Good news! As a member of the NHCLC, you now have access to quality life insurance at affordable group rates—rates made possible by the size and scope of the membership of the NHCLC.

You may already know how important life insurance is for your family’s future, but the thought of dealing with confusing forms and insurance agents may have made you hesitate—there are so many different kinds of coverage and so many different rates and requirements to consider.

Many think getting life insurance is too important to put off. That’s why the NHCLC partnered with The Kingdom Insurance Group LLC and The Prudential Insurance Company of America (Prudential) — to make it easy and convenient for our members to apply. There are no routine medical exams and in many cases just a few simple health questions to answer.

It’s so simple you can enroll and apply for coverage on your tablet, smartphone, or personal computer!

Who is eligible for this coverage?

Individual NHCLC members under the age of 60 who are either U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States are eligible to apply for the NHCLC Term Life Insurance Plan. Coverage amounts up to $150,000 for members under 60 are available for many members just by answering a few simple health questions. You can select the amount that best protects your loved ones. And if your needs increase, you can apply for more coverage.

How much does coverage cost?

Rates for the NHCLC Term Life Insurance Plan are competitive, helping to make the decision to apply an easier one. Rates are based on your attained age and will increase as you enter higher age brackets, as shown in the rate chart. Like most insurance, rates are subject to change, but only on a class-wide basis—you can never be singled out for an increase.

Can these rates be increased?

Like most group insurance, rates are subject to change, but only on a class-wide basis. You can never be singled out for a rate increase, even if your health changes while you are insured under a group policy issued to the NHCLC and provided that you continue to be an active member of the NHCLC.

How long does the coverage last?

Your coverage will last until age 85, as long as you continue to pay your premiums. Coverage will reduce at ages 65, 70 and 75. Once you are insured, your coverage cannot be cancelled due to a change in your health provided that you pay your premiums.

Other Features

Accelerated Benefit Option**

If you become terminally ill with a life expectancy of 12 months or less, the Accelerated Benefit Option lets you receive 50% of your coverage amount (not to exceed $100,000) while still living. Use the proceeds as you wish—for travel, medical bills, or family expenses. The amount payable at death is then reduced by the accelerated benefit amount paid. Please consult with your tax advisor to review any tax implications.

When the life insurance terminates - A member’s life insurance may be continued until the terminating age of 85. Earlier termination will occur: a) if the participant is no longer a member of the NHCLC, b) if the Group Policy terminates, or c) if the member makes written request to terminate coverage or fails to pay the required premium contributions. Dependent Spouse Coverage and Dependent Child Coverage under the NHCLC Term Life Insurance Plan will terminate under any of the following conditions: the NHCLC Term Life Insurance Plan coverage terminates for the covered member; the spouse or child no longer qualifies as an eligible dependent; the NHCLC Term Life Insurance Plan itself is terminated; or the provision in the policy for the coverage terminates.

Suicide Exclusion - If death results from or is caused by suicide, while sane or insane: (1) A death benefit is not payable if the insured dies within two years of the insured’s effective date. But, Prudential will refund any premiums paid for the insured for term life insurance under this coverage. (2) The amount of any increase in the insured’s death benefit is not payable if the insured dies within two years of the effective date of the increase, but Prudential will refund any premiums paid for such increase.

**Accelerated Death Benefit option is a feature that is made available to group life insurance participants. It is not a health, nursing home, or long-term care insurance benefit and is not designed to eliminate the need for those types of insurance coverage. The death benefit is reduced by the amount of the accelerated death benefit paid. There is no administrative fee to accelerate benefits. Receipt of accelerated death benefits may affect eligibility for public assistance and may be taxable. The federal income tax treatment of payments made under this rider depends upon whether the insured is the recipient of the benefits and is considered "terminally ill" or "chronically ill." You may wish to seek professional tax advice before exercising this option.
