by Will Duncan, Public Relations Student Writer September 17, 2014 Four students from Cedarville University have been awarded $1,000 scholarships from the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) for the 2014-2015 academic school year. Cedarville’s NHCLC scholarship recipients include Emilie Delgado, sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colorado; Michael Miller, junior from Heathrow, Florida; Matthew Pizana, sophomore from King George, Virginia and Chris Savarese, sophomore from Marlton, New Jersey. “Being Latina, I am both proud and grateful to claim this scholarship,” said Delgado. “It is exciting to see how God can use organizations like NHCLC to help me achieve my goals while here at Cedarville University. I plan to make the most of this scholarship by doing as much as I possibly can to grow in my faith and education as a social work major.” The NHCLC, also known as the Hispanic Evangelical Association, is the nation’s largest Christian Hispanic organization. Each year the NHCLC awards scholarships to selected students showing particular excellence. This organization provides the scholarship in an effort to reduce the dropout rate of Hispanic students and encourage higher education among the Hispanic community. Students are chosen from Christian universities that sponsor the NHCLC. Cedarville University has been a sponsor of the NHCLC since 2011. The scholarship application process includes several essays and recommendations from spiritual leaders. Applicants must be of Hispanic descent, must be enrolled at one of the sponsor universities, and must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,620 undergraduate, graduate and online students in more than 100 areas of study. Founded in 1887, Cedarville is recognized nationally for its authentic Christian community, rigorous academic programs, strong graduation and retention rates, accredited professional and health science offerings and leading student satisfaction ratings.
