SACRAMENTO, Calif.–The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (www.NHCLC.org), also known as the Hispanic Evangelical Association, the nation’s largest Christian Hispanic organization, has announced that Yuri Mantilla of Focus on The Family has been appointed to the NHCLC Board of Directors. Yuri Mantilla, said, “It is a great honor and great responsibility to join the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference’s board. In this decisive time in our country’s history, the integration of diverse and essential aspects of the Christian worldview is vital, and the Hispanic community plays a decisive role. I pray that the Lord will enable us to answer the challenges of our time by consistently living and applying our Christian faith to all spheres of life.” Mr. Yuri Mantilla is the Director for International Government Affairs for Focus on the Family (www.fotf.org). As part of his international relations’ work, Mr. Mantilla has met with high-ranking government officials, as well as diplomats, scholars, civil society and church leaders throughout Latin America. He has spoken at international conferences in most Latin American countries, Malaysia, South Korea, Spain, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Rev. Welcome hermano!” Mr. Mantilla has spoken at civil society briefings at the United Nations in New York City and has participated in meetings at the United Nations’ Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. He often attends high-level meetings at the Organization of American States, such as the Fifth Summit of the Americas. Mr. Mantilla speaks English and Russian, as well as his native Spanish. Before joining Focus on the Family, Yuri Mantilla worked at the Family Research Council as Counsel for International Human Rights and Hispanic Affairs. Mantilla specializes in international human rights law. Currently, he is researching and writing on issues related to the law, bio-ethics and culture, as they affect the international community. He has published research papers and articles in journals such as the Catholic Law Review. Yuri Mantilla has been a guest on PBS, CNN International, Telemundo, Univision and the BBC. As a professor with the International Institute for Christian Studies (IICS), he taught international law in the Peoples’ Republic of China. Mantilla received a law degree in international legal studies (LLM) from American University in Washington DC. He received his first law degree from Kiev State University in the Ukraine. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in International Human Rights from Trinity International University in California and studied theology at Columbia Biblical Seminary in South Carolina.
