NHCLC leaders joined a broad coalition on Capitol Hill this week to advocate for the Dignity Act, meeting with dozens of members of Congress and participating in a bipartisan press conference alongside lawmakers and national organizations.

Dr. Joseph Castleberry, NHCLC board member and former president of Northwest University, said the meetings revealed both a gap in awareness and a real opportunity for progress.

“Many of the members we spoke with simply weren’t familiar with the Dignity Act,” said Castleberry. “But once they understand how balanced and bipartisan the proposal is, there’s a real openness to it. The challenge now is keeping this in front of them. With so many competing priorities, we have to stay consistent and make the case that this is a moment we can’t miss. Immigration reform has waited long enough, and the Dignity Act gives us a serious path forward.”

Michael Deheeger, ABIC Campaign Director, emphasized the growing national coalition and the coordinated effort to engage lawmakers across the country.

“Today, ABIC Action, the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, American Families United, the Presidents’ Alliance in Higher Education and Immigration, the Hispanic Contractors Association, and more than 75 other business, faith, and community organizations from across the country are proud to launch the Dignity Tour, calling on Congress to pass and President Trump to sign the bipartisan Dignity Act of 2025. The Dignity Act provides a pragmatic, balanced solution to our immigration, workforce, and affordability challenges. It stabilizes communities, grows the economy, lowers costs for American families, and invests $70 billion in US workers. In events from Pennsylvania to Arizona, from Texas to Florida, this coalition will be engaging lawmakers in districts across the country, urging them to join 40 of their bipartisan colleagues as co-sponsors.”
