Don’t Listen to the No’s

Charles Darrow was an undistinguished heater salesman who lived in the Germantown area of Philadelphia.

In 1933, in the depths of the Great Depression, Charles had one thing that he loved to do, visit Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Charles had little money to spend so he walked the streets of Atlantic City, imagining himself as a successful real estate developer. As he walked, he pretended to own many of the properties he passed.

During one of his visits, Charles devised a game based on his fantasy world. He showed the product to a few friends who loved his idea. Thinking he had a winning proposition, he made copies of his game and offered it to the Parker Brothers game company. They said the game was too complicated and no one would buy it. They said NO.

Charles next, raised some money, made more copies, and approached Wanamaker’s Department Store in downtown Philadelphia. The store management decided to take a chance on the game and offered a few for sale. In a few weeks the game became outrageously popular. People throughout the city poured into the store looking for the new game.

Today Charles’s invention is the most successful game of the modern world. It is licensed in over eighty countries and has been translated into twenty-three languages.

But Monopoly would never have existed if Charles Darrow had listened to the No’s.

Don’t surrender to the No, believe until you get to the Yes.

Whatever God has called you to do, believe it can happen.

The Bible says in Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” NIV
