I was walking one morning in the small mountain town where I grew up. I had just rounded the corner of a street in front of two houses. The homes stood across the street from each other, and I paused a moment to look at each house because my grandmothers had lived in them. Both homes were filled with warm and happy memories.

As I continued on the sidewalk, I saw a man coming toward me. I recognized him as a prominent and successful member of the community.

As we approached one another, he stopped and greeted me. I knew him through my family and asked how he was doing. He gave a standard reply, then continued to walk. Suddenly he turned around and said he wanted to tell me something.

He said that when he was a young man, newly married with small children, he developed a serious problem with alcohol. It was so bad that he lost his job, and his wife left with the children. He explained that at his lowest moment, he was visited by my grandfather, Jerry Lafferty. He said my grandfather prayed with him and God powerfully moved his heart. He stopped drinking, gave his life to Christ, reconciled with his wife and rebuilt his life. He wanted to thank me for my grandfather’s prayers.

As remarkable as that was, what happened next was amazing. That same day three more men stopped and told me they were spiritually changed when my grandfather prayed for them. I have never forgotten that day.

Always pray. Call on God with belief and passion because PRAYER WORKS.

The Bible says in I Thessalonians 5:16, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing…” NKJV
