You Can Make It Through

Sometimes an unexpected encounter with someone can reveal a great lesson.

Amy and I were finishing a meal at a local restaurant when we met another couple.

We shared some stories from our different backgrounds and the woman told us a hilarious story from her career as a high school teacher. Told here with her permission.

She said she went into a room to microwave a pop tart. While she waited, she was distracted and forgot the pop tart. Suddenly the overheated food exploded as smoke poured from the microwave. The smoke triggered the fire alarms, and the woman ran to the principal’s office to report a false alarm.

The principal explained that the call to the fire department was automatic and could not be stopped. The fire department arrived, and the school was evacuated. When the students and faculty exited, an enormous rainstorm began to drop a downpour of water on everyone. The crowd was guided into the only available open space, a construction site for a new football stadium. The site quickly turned into a giant mud swamp.

Less than an hour later, the school occupants, soaked and covered in mud, returned to the building. The fire trucks left, and the teacher was identified as the person who had caused the alarm.

Several days later this teacher thought about her wild experience and realized that if she could survive all of that, she could survive anything. She decided to make her personal disaster a reminder that you can get through whatever is in your way.
For years she kept the remains of the charred pop tart on her desk as a symbol of how to overcome adversity.

Trust God and keep going. You can make it through.

The Bible says in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” NKJV
