The MACBOOK. The IPOD. The IPHONE. All were designed by Steve Jobs and his team. Apple Computer and Pixar Films mostly originated from his fertile mind. The world is different because of his creativity.
Steve Jobs was the adopted son of Paul and Clara Jobs of Mountain View, California. Paul was a skilled mechanic and carpenter who introduced Steve to the fun of assembling machines.
When the adoption was under negotiation, Steve’s birth mother insisted on adding a legal requirement that the adoptive parents commit to providing a college education for the child.
To honor that commitment, Paul and Clara sent Steve to Reed College in Portland, Oregon. When Steve realized the financial hardship his college enrollment was causing his parents, he dropped out (without telling them) but continued to audit classes.
He wanted to save his parents the expense but also wanted to expand his mind. One class the school offered was taught by a world-famous typographer, Robert Palladino. Although the course had nothing to do with Job’s usual interests in mechanics and technology, he decided to experience something mentally new. He took the course to learn calligraphy.
Years later, Steve told an interviewer that the calligraphy course had awakened a love of beautiful design which later inspired him to create the beautiful look of Apple products. That beauty of design became a vital part of the success and popularity of those products.
You never know what can happen when you expand your mind into new and stimulating areas. Always remember that “when you expand your mind, you expand your opportunities.”
God gives ideas and insights. You need to expand your mind to embrace His purpose.
The Bible says in Ephesians 5:16, “Make the most of every opportunity…” NIV
