Israel’s Borders are Bleeding…Even in Washington, D.C. 

With deep sorrow and profound heartbreak, we confirm that the victims of last night’s horrific antisemitic attack at the Capital Jewish Museum, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, were personally connected to our NHCLC–Eagles’ Wings community.

Yaron was the beloved son, and Sarah the soon-to-be daughter-in-law, of Daniel Lischinsky, our dear friend and guide during the NHCLC – Eagles’ Wings Pastors’ Trip to Israel this past February. Daniel walked beside us, prayed with us, and opened our hearts to the people and the land of Israel. Today, we grieve with him in unspeakable sorrow, and we are lifting up Daniel and his entire family in prayer, covering them with love, support, and solidarity during this unimaginable time. 

 Both Yaron and Sarah served with passion and excellence at the Israeli Embassy in Washington. Yaron, a 28-year-old German-Israeli, worked in the political department. Sarah, 26, served in public diplomacy, courageously advocating for Israeli-Arab coexistence and peace. They were planning to become engaged next week in Jerusalem, a future filled with hope, now tragically cut short. 

On Wednesday night, as they left an event at the Capital Jewish Museum, a (Hispanic) man approached a small group of attendees and opened fire, according to D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith. Yaron and Sarah were killed on the spot. The suspect, now in custody, shouted “Free, Free Palestine” as he was arrested. 

This was not a random act of violence. It was a targeted, hate-fueled antisemitic attack, rooted in the same rhetoric being echoed across campuses and online. Let us honor Yaron and Sarah not only with our grief, but with our voices, our prayers, and our stand for what is right.

Let this moment call each of us leaders, believers, and people of conscience, to reject hatred in all its forms and to stand boldly for life, peace, and the dignity of every human being.
