Looking for Heroes

I recently read an important and inspiring story of a young man who spoke about his search for heroes.

The 28-year-old was asked to speak to a youth group in the Midwest. He recognized this as an opportunity to affirm his belief in the American Dream.

He grew up in poverty so severe that he didn’t even have clothing for school. He lost both his parents early and struggled with intense depression. But he believed that anything was possible in America and worked to get an education.

His speech to the youth group was so influential that the local press reported on it, which is how I read about his comments.

The young man acknowledged the political poison and turmoil tearing apart our country but affirmed his conviction that this country still offered the best opportunity for freedom.

In the report, the young man (remember, only 28) urged everyone to find the good in America and choose to be heroes of freedom. He spoke about the Constitution and quoted the Bible. He was passionate about God’s plan for the nation.

This young man reminded me that there are still young adults who love America and want to be heroes. Whenever you can, encourage young men and women to stand up for God’s principles and be the heroes we need.

The young man’s name is Abraham Lincoln.

The Bible says in Psalm 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…” NIV
