Last Wednesday, May 1, the Arizona Senate made a historic decision by voting to repeal the 1864 abortion ban, opening the door to the implementation of a law allowing abortions up to 15 weeks of pregnancy. The NHCLC, along with religious leaders and pro-life advocates, was present to pray and intercede at this critical time.

Rev. Macario De La Cruz of the Center for Arizona Policy expressed his concern: “They managed to convince two Republicans who were pro-life and now they are giving in. This pro-abortion movement is not going to stop here, what they want to do is legalize it in the state of Arizona up to nine months. This is a giant that we are fighting against and only the hand of God, can stop this giant. So we ask for your prayers, we need to cry out for God to have mercy on our state and our nation.

Joel Tirado, vice president of the Arizona Pastors Alliance and part of the NHCLC team, pointed out the importance of unity and prayer: “We have just witnessed in Arizona, something historic in the state, where 16 votes in favor and 14 points against determined to legalize abortion in this state”.

He also stated that it is sad and shameful that all Hispanic senators voted in favor of abortion. “We have to unite. We have to keep praying, keep working for life and keep encouraging the pastoral to come together, as leaders, as a body. We have not understood the magnitude of how far this can proceed. It is time for us to take the position that God has given us in the government and take that authority to continue working”.

He also stated that it is sad and shameful that all Hispanic senators voted in favor of abortion. “We have the obligation to vote based on our biblical principles, not by party, last name, or race; only our biblical worldview is what should determine our vote. We have not understood the magnitude of how far this can proceed. It is time for us to take the position that God has given us in government and take that authority to continue working.”

Pastor Abraham Hernandez, Executive Director of the NHCLC, was present to support the religious leaders in their pro-life struggle. While he regrets the decision, he congratulated the Arizona church members who were present at the Capitol. They were there from before the doors opened and occupied most of the box seats, praying for this situation.

“There is an anti-life spirit, but the pastoral community is waking up and realizing that silence is not an option. They have raised their voice and this is just the beginning of a prophetic movement of the church.”

Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the NHCLC, also shared his perspective on this crucial issue: “This is a critical moment in the fight for life in Arizona and across our nation. The NHCLC reaffirms its commitment to defend the fundamental right to life of all human beings and urges the community to unite in prayer and action to protect this inalienable right. “¿

In this way, the NHCLC reaffirms its commitment to fight abortion and defend the fundamental right to life of all human beings.
