I recently heard a story about a man who was so depressed he visited a psychiatrist.
When the doctor asked him if anything had caused his depression, the man replied that two months earlier a cousin had died and left him $100,000. Then the previous month his great aunt died and left him $500,000.
The puzzled doctor asked, with all that good news, why his patient was still depressed. The man answered, “You don’t understand. This month I got nothing!”
A pessimistic attitude colors everything. When you view life negatively then you see sadness instead of joy.
It is far better to decide to be relentlessly positive. When you trust a good God and choose to expect His blessings, a new, happy energy fills your life.
A long-term study, the Harvard Study of Adult Development, followed 268 individuals for decades. The study found that every person who identified as an optimist at 25, was FAR healthier than those who were pessimistic.
Which would you rather be? Negative and unhappy or positive and full of possibilities. It is truly up to you.
The Bible says in Proverbs 17:22, “A cheerful heart is good medicine…” NIV
