Yesterday was Father’s Day. I was blessed with a day filled with family. Amy and I were with our son Jonathan, daughter Allison, son-in-law Asa and grandchildren, Levi (7) and Marigold (4).
The day checked every box for me. It was a complete and satisfying success.
But a special surprise was waiting for me at the end of the day.
Amy and I drove home to our small mountain community in beautiful eastern Kentucky. After we arrived, we were met by cousins who had unexpectedly come up from Georgia.
We all went to a local ice cream bar and restaurant to eat (again). I stood at the counter and ordered our food when a young woman with two children motioned to the man taking my order and said to charge her for our meal. When my cousins walked up, she told the man to add their order as well.
When I asked why she was doing this, she said someone had done it for her and she wanted to repay the kindness.
I was “blown away”. I (and my cousins) thanked her and told her we were sure God would bless her.
She sweetly said she wanted no thanks. Her joy was in doing something for us.
What would the world be like if more people were like this young woman? Let’s all find out what a “kindness explosion” can do.
