Italy, like most European countries is crazy about soccer (which they call football).
Members of a national team that wins the World Cup, the international soccer championship, become heroes to the other citizens. Even one world championship can grant the players an exalted status for life.
In 1938, the Italian team won the World Cup. The star of the team was Aldo Oliveri, the goalie who was instrumental to the victory.
In 1997, the city of Verona, Italy decided to commemorate the 1938 championship by dedicating their football stadium to the star of that team. After a huge publicity campaign, the city opened Aldo Oliveri Memorial Stadium to honor the memory of the deceased player.
A week of festivities led up to the grand opening. However, the day before the event someone discovered that Oliveri was still alive, 86, active and in excellent health. The opening was canceled and the stadium quickly renamed.
Always check your facts first. God is a God of truth. Base everything on the facts.
The Bible says in Ephesians 4:25, “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor…” NIV
