Does God answer prayer? Do miracles still happen?
Myra de la Vega worked as a checkout clerk at a grocery store in Evanston, Illinois. She was everyone’s favorite person in the store. Myra was kind, positive and friendly. Customers would often switch lines so she could check them out.
Myra began to feel unwell and upon examination learned that her kidneys were failing. Soon the 57-year-old was on daily dialysis.
That’s when Myra prayed for God’s help. When she could not find a kidney donor she prayed more.
One day a regular customer asked Myra if she was alright, and she told the customer, Dan Coyne, her story.
Dan was overwhelmed with a sense that he was supposed to help Myra. He went home and told his wife he felt he was meant to give her a kidney. His wife agreed.
Dan and Myra visited her doctor and was told that a kidney match between them had only a 1 in 4.000 chance of being right. When Dan was tested the doctor found his kidney was a perfect match.
On March 26, 2010, Dan’s kidney replaced Myra’s diseased organ. The operation was a complete success and Myra returned to a normal life.
Against all odds, a relative stranger with a perfect kidney match and a desire to help (plus an instantly supportive wife) appeared after Myra asked God for help.
God does answer prayer. Miracles do happen.
God says in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” NIV
