In 1941, a clerical mistake gave two U.S. women identical social security numbers. Both women were named Patricia with one born in Colorado and the other in Oregon. They were not related in any way.
When the women began using their social security number later in life, they discovered both the mistake and each other.
Here the story becomes very strange. Both women were born on March 13, 1941. Both married men serving in the military in 1959, eleven days apart.
Both had two children, each aged nineteen and twenty-one. Both were professional bookkeepers. Both had attended cosmology school, and both were engaged in semi-professional oil painting.
These are surprising coincidences that are difficult to explain. God’s guidance sometimes seems like a series of coincidences. But His guidance is actually a specific series of precise steps designed to get you where He wants you to go.
Once, while attending a service at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta on a Wednesday night, I was separated from Amy as we entered the back of the building. I was walking down an empty hallway when I saw the pastor, Dr. Charles Stanley, coming toward me.
When I stopped to say hello, Dr. Stanley said he was pleased to see me. He said that a few minutes earlier he had decided to contact me. He said he had been considering inviting me to be his special preaching assistant. When he saw me in that hallway at that moment, he thought it was a confirmation.
I served as his assistant for five of the best years of my life. Some people might say the hallway encounter was a coincidence. I believe it was God’s specific guidance.
Open your heart and let God lead you. You will never go wrong.
